September 31st – nyc again – 365x project

Last year I wrote (in Polish) a massive guidebook on New York City – more than 300 pages including whole city, even Bronx or Staten Island. For now it is avaiable in French only. Today I got a message from my editor that in Februrary 2014 it will be avaible also in Polish and English! Yupi!

June 26th – my NYC guidebook has been printed! – 365x project

(time for self-promotion)

New York City guidebook I was working on last year has finally arrived to my flat Prague.

I was very surprised how heavy and thick is it. More than 300 pages of text. Aaaaa. “I really wrote it all??” that was my first question… Yes, today I am proud of my baby. Big thanks to Anna Młynowska ❤ and Aga&Janek who made me feel like home in NYC.

Publisher: ExpressMap Polska

(unfortunately) for now only French version in available, hopefully soon in original – in Polish.

Happy and Lucky

When you want to wish somebody “Happy New Year” in Polish, you should say “Szczęśliwego Nowego Roku”. It’s more tricky that English “happy”. It means also “lucky”.

And because I’d spent half a year mentally in New York City:

How did we get there?

Last Spring I bough ticket to NYC – visiting my friends. I decided to go for whole month so that we have plenty of time do to what you have to do in US. Go for a

road trip

But where to? Talking on Skype we were looking at googlemaps. Maybe Florida? No, better fly there. Maybe inland – no, boring. And then I looked at the map of Canada.

“hey, what a nice island. Great shape! let’s go there!”

So we drove to Nova Scotia

that beating heart. New York

the only problem is – all my stories start with “In New York…”

Late evening after long working day. I eat porridge and watch HBO’s  “Boardwalk Empire”. I feel so happy when they mention Cotton Club, Harlem, characters move to Brooklyn, see some piece I can put in broader context.

Italy with my friends. Chill out.  When I start talking about New York it’s hard to stop – mostly stories from the bast, interesting (for me) things I discovered to myself. Not sure if it’s that exciting for people who hasn’t been there at all?

In Vienna I see “New York New York” bar and need to fight with myself not to get in. In the other one, supercosy and superlocal, they play Alicia Key’s “New York State of Mind”.

Few hour in the bus. Featured movie all set in NY, I even drop few tears (ekhm), after even documentary on the same topic.

“I need rescue” – I write in text message to my friend. Or reset.

But maybe it’s still better than talk about bad date, non unanswered messages or lost loves, some boring job?

I am fascinated by the idea of “city”. When all that work load will go lower I have prepared  another amazing things to watch – online Penn University course “Designing Cities”. ❤
